Delete Your Account
Last updated: 7 October 2026
You can permanently delete your FairThen account and personal data at any time. This page explains the two ways to do it, exactly what gets removed, and what is kept so your friends’ shared balances stay correct.
FairThen is published by Pandoma PLT, registration no. 202604002010 (LLP0047250-LGN). Registered office: 10-1st, Persiaran Seksyen 4/8, Bandar Putra Bertam, 13200 Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.
1. Delete in the app (fastest)
- Open FairThen and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Danger zone and tap Delete account.
- If you set a password on your account, enter it. Signed in with Google, Apple or an emailed code and never set a password? There is nothing to enter here.
- Tap Send code and enter the 6-digit code we email you.
- Confirm on the final prompt.
We ask for a code every time because it proves the request came from someone who can read your email, not just from someone holding your unlocked phone. Where you also have a password, we ask for both, since the two protect against different things.
2. Delete without the app
If you’ve uninstalled the app, you can do the whole thing here: delete your account on the web. Enter the address on your account, type the 6-digit code we email you, and add your password if you set one. Same 30-day window, same confirmation emails.
If you can’t receive email at that address, write to support@fairthen.com instead and we’ll verify the request another way. This is the same support address you can use for any other question.
3. What gets deleted
- Your account and login.
- Your email address, display name on your profile, username, and avatar.
- Your receipt images and any personal split-bill calculations.
4. What is kept (and why)
Expenses you shared with other people belong to those groups too. Deleting them would make your friends’ balances wrong. So we keep the shared expense records, and your name in those groups is retained and marked “(deleted)”, for example “Alex (deleted)”, so the people you split with can still reconcile who owed what. We keep this minimal display name on the basis of that legitimate interest; everything else that identifies you is erased.
5. How long it takes
Deletion is scheduled and completes 30 days after you request it. During that window you can cancel by signing back in and choosing Cancel deletion, or by tapping Keep my account in any of the emails we send you. After 30 days the deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Residual copies may persist briefly in routine backups before they age out.
6. Emails we send you along the way
We email you at every step, to the address on the account, so a deletion you did not ask for is hard to miss:
- The code itself, when you start. It says what it is for, so a code that arrives out of the blue is a warning sign rather than something to type in.
- When you ask. Confirms the date we will delete on, and how to cancel.
- About three days before. A last reminder while you can still change your mind.
- When it is done. Confirms your account and personal data are gone.
- If you cancel. Confirms nothing was removed.
If one of these arrives and you did not ask for it, sign in and cancel the deletion, then change your password. Then tell us, so we can help.
